The Rise of White Backgrounds in Self-Help Book Design

Familiarity is a big reason for why we see trends in book cover design. If a design was effective in one instance, we’re reasonable in thinking it will work in another.

This is quite evident in anything from Amish Fiction, to political memoirs. However, in this article, we’ll take a look at the all-too-evident trend sweeping the Self-Help genre: white. That’s right, white, and lots of it.

Just as a small example, here’s a screenshot from the Self-Help section of Barnes & Noble:
